Stockland Martel and The F-Stop Magazine

Im bringing two sources to you today, one a representative company for major advertising photographers and a magazine that brings in depth interviews to major advertising photographers.

Stockland Martel
: A major company that sponsors and represents today's leading photographers for the industry and advertising. This website shows a large portion of the best incoming work from a large amount of spectacular photographers. This is a great site to look for inspiration and ideas.

The F-Stop Magazine: A magazine specializing in interviewing today's leading advertisement photographers. Besides just the interviews, they ask specific questions about a certain photograph and show the lighting diagrams that went with the photograph. They also include information about the retouching and how the final image came to be. Its a really great site for learning about not only the photographs you may see on billboards or posters, but the lighting, equipment and process to obtain the final image.

Herald Banner Photography Contest

The Herald Banner newspaper is hosting a photography contest that would be good for a early entry contest.

"Do you believe a picture is worth a thousand words? Do you think you have an award-winning photograph that you would love to see in print?

Well, here’s the latest news flash. A development is currently underway as area residents are preparing to enter the Hunt County Amateur Photography Contest and Exhibit.

Sponsored by the Herald-Banner and the W. Walworth Harrison Public Library, the contest is only open to amateur photographers and Hunt County residents.

The contest begins July 9 and runs through Aug. 28. Entries will be accepted from June 25 to Aug. 25. Submissions can be mailed to the attention of Photo Contest at the Herald-Banner, 2305 King St., Greenville, TX, 75401, or can be dropped off at the Herald-Banner office during regular business hours, which are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Only printed black and white or color photographs, no smaller than a four by six and no larger than an eight by 10, will be accepted. No e-mail submissions will be accepted.

The contest has two divisions: adult, ages 14 and up; and junior, ages 13 and under.

Each week, beginning July 9 and 10, the Herald-Banner will publish the winning photograph on the front page. The winning photograph from the adult division will be published on Mondays, and the junior division winners will be published on Tuesday.

At the end of the eight weeks, the top 16 photos will be put on display at the W. Walworth Harrison Public Library from Sept. 1— 22. Citizens can come to the library and vote for the People’s Choice Award from Sept. 1 — 22. The overall winners will be announced on Sept. 24, and the photos will remain on display until Sept. 30."

Taylor James Retouching Studio

I thought I would mix it up a bit by putting up not a photographer, but rather a company. You know all those billboards that have amazing out of this world photos that look better than real life? Taylor James is one of the premiere retouching companies that does that. Great information on the site and make sure to check out the case studies so you can see the before and after.
