Young Photographers United

Image
Pretty neat idea if you read about why this thing was found and what they offer young artists, but I recommend looking at the work they have available on here, just tons of work by very young artists, I didn't see much I didn't like there. Young Photographers United

Canon 5D Film!!

Image
Allright, well after the Nikon D90 was announced with video capabilities, as many of you know the Canon 5D Mark II came out with video capability as well. I found Vincent Laforet's blog today which had a great post about Heinz Kluetmeier and Jeff Kavanaugh's photo of Michael Phelps at the Olympics this year, which is shown above. Come to find out he just shot a short film set to music with a new 5D that Canon let him use for 72 hours. You can check out the video here , which is also the home page for his website.

Art Conspiracy in Dallas

Image
Hey guys, I found this site today after looking up Dallas Art events, and it looks like this organization will have another convention/auction in December this year, they will be putting out a call to artists sometime in October, but check out the site and see if you're interested, it seems like they mix art auctions and live music shows, so what's not to love? Here's their own description from their site: "the art conspiracy was set up with the following goals in mind: 1. to bring together a group of dallas area artists and musicians to raise money for a chosen benefit. 2. to provide art to the non-gallery attending masses. 3. to help spark awareness of the local arts scene 4. to use historic, under-utilized buildings as art venues"

Kara Walker at the Ft. Worth Modern!!

Image
If you don't go see this show before it ends October 19th, you are crazy, you hear me? CRAZY!!!! Kara Walker's work is insanely cool, everyone should figure out a way to make some time and go see it. You will definitely not be disappointed. Check out all the details at the Ft. Worth Modern site, here. The Museum is free the first Sunday of every month and every Wednesday, so this weekend would be a great time to go.

Platon Video on Russian News!

"When I'm photographing my ego is left at the door and I have to keep that in check. I'm the underdog mentally, that's my mentality before every shoot. All the room is filled with the personality that I'm photographing, and the more humble you are the more observant you are. The more arrogant and overconfident you are the more likely you are to lose and miss all the magical details that someone's going to give you visually." - a quote from about 7:50 into the video. He's a great portrait photographer that should be looked at for sure. Platon

WHOA!! A DSLR/ HD Videocamera???

Image
You know, I've always wondered if someone would ever make a camera like this. It shoots 12 megapixel photographs and HD video clips with stereo sound for up to five minutes. I mean, I know that's short, but props to Nikon for pulling it off anyway. Check out some video clips here , and a story about it here at the New York Times website . They have a video somewhere on it too.

Gallery Renovations

Image
The gallery has undergone some renovations thanks to the money raised through our photo contest at atpi. The walls still need some paint and we are hoping to get track lighting. The first show will be the photo faculty show featuring work from Chad Smith, Vaughn Waskovich, Danea Males, and hopefully Greg Milano.

Art Show Deadlines - Artshow.com

I found this site today, it had an extensive listing of art and photography shows everyone should consider entering. There's a National Juried Photography Show that has a deadline of May 10th, and the 28th Annual Spring Photography Contest from Photographer's Forum and Nikon has a deadline of May 12th 2008. So everyone get their work ready and enter!

Commercial Show!!

Image
Hey you guys, make sure you come to the Third Floor Gallery on campus on February 25th for the Commercial Show from the Fall 2007 class at Texas A&M-Commerce. The class was taught by alumni Greg Milano and for the first time the students got a chance to work with Capture One software and digital backs for our medium format cameras, and I think the results were incredible. Again, it will be on Monday, February 25th at 7 pm on the Third Floor of the Journalism Building. See you there!!!
