Wise Advice

Passing along a post from " A Photo Editor " and originally from the Greg Benson Blog , with "Tips for Young Creatives". Great Advice overall. Check out all the posts from this. If you don’t know market rates in your city, ask others. Know what you normally charge, but don’t be afraid to ask the photographer what his or her budget is. The same photographer may some have jobs with an editorial budget (lower) and others with an advertising budget (higher). 1. Always be on time. In fact, always show up early. Make a photographer late for a shoot, and she will call someone else the next time. 3. Have a 30-second elevator speech in your brain When you meet people – possibly in an actual elevator, but more likely in a networking situation – you will need to explain who you are and what you ...

Photographers blogs you should be reading.

All of these photographers are in different stages of their working career.  Reading their blogs I have gotten a real sense about day to day life, how they promote themselves and not every image the shoot is a winner. SPE: seen more then we can talk about.

Thanks to all that was involved, SPE was an amazing conference. We learned a great deal about photography and the effects of Sprawl on our world. Photo Society was so grateful we could send 13 of our members to the conference. I know it was exciting and eye opening to see the diversity of work covering the conference topic SPRAWL. 7 words Something I picked up was from the Tamron sales rep. In difining your photographic style pick seven words that represent your images. Those seven works become your guide in your style. So what are your 7 words? Chris Jordan

Image
Recently, photographer Chris Jordan was a guest on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report. I've seen his name pop up quite a few places, so I thought he may be worth putting up here for people to look at. His work deals with the effects of our mass consumptive society, among other things, his series "Running the Numbers: An American Self Portrait" is pretty amazing if you ask me.
